MAJOR-GENERAL CHARLES FRANCIS SKYRING
Born 1st March 1814 - Died 10th April 1868
The son of George Skyring and Mary Claringbold, he was born 1st March 1814 at Gibralter, and died 10th April 1868 at Rondebosch, Cape Town, South Africa. He married Georgianna, daughter of Dr John Wallen Halahan and Mary Anne Creighton on 12th October 1848 at the Garrison, Gibralter. They had children:
1 Edith Strathmore, born c 1847, died c 1890. She married George Milne at Alderney, Channel Islands
2 Dashwood Easthope, born 30th September 1849/1850 at Hythe, Kent, and died 20th April 1927 at San Gorgonia, Riverside, California.
3 Florence Elizabeth, born 5th May 1851 at Blatsoe, Bedfordshire.
4 Charles Francis John, born 26th May 1853 at Granton, Edinburgh, and died 20th April 1927.
5 Ianthe Florence, born c 1855 at sea, off the coast of Spain, and died 20th July 1917 at Gerrard's Cross, Buckinghamshire.
6 Ethel Mary Aileen, born 22nd May 1863, and died 22nd October 1902. She married Prof. William Charles Flamstead Walters.
Charles Skyring served for most, if not all of his army career, in the Royal Engineers.
