I was born on 28th December 1947 in Essen, Germany, where my father Kenneth Clive Jacob, then a Captain in the Cameron Highlanders, was stationed. My mother, Eleanore Eugenie, was the second of two daughters of Walther Johannes Ruhrmann and his wife Maria Sieglar.

I have a son Winston Edward Hildebrand Jacob.
