RICHARD BARHAM

Born in 1702 - Died in 1784

 

A son of John Barham, he was born in 1702, and died in 1784. In 1733 he married Elizabeth, who was born in 1701, and died in 1781, the daughter of William Ford. They had children:

1 Elizabeth, who died in 1782.
2 Anne, who died as an infant in 1737.
3 Mary, who died as an infant in 1738.
4 Sarah, who died in 1784.
5 Anne, who died as an infant in 1743.
6 Charlotte, who died in 1786. She married John Cosens, a surgeon.
7 Richard Harris, born in 1747, and died in 1795.

His will is dated 29th October 1782 and was proved 19th January 1785. In it he is described as of St Mary Magdalene parish, Canterbury. He left numerous properties to his son Richard Harris Barham and two daughters Sarah and Charlotte. These include a number in various Canterbury parishes, as also in Thannington, Bridge and Patrixbourne, often they being the moiety of a property.

Described as a gentleman, he was admitted a freeman of the city of Canterbury by birth in 1727.
