OF HUNDITH = HILL IN COCKERMOUTH, CUMBERLAND

Part of a small archive relating to this Bell family, = the pedigree was written by one of their number in an otherwise blank booklet printed in the late 19^th century. It is not clear whether some of the dates given relate to baptisms or births, the dates being pre-fixed sol= ely with a ‘B’. Many of this family were staunch Quakers, and some = of their correspondence is published separately (see under correspondence).

Jonathan Bell married Rebecca ----- of Hundith Hill, Cockermouth, Cumberla= nd. They had a son

Daniel Bell of Tottenham, born 12^th December 1685, died 12^th February 1758. He married Elizabeth Sole of Chip= ping Norton, born in 1688, and died on 21^st June 1740. They had child= ren:

   1= John, born 1^st August 1718, died 2^nd June 1719.
   2 = Jonathan of Bailey Hall, Heilford. On 12^{th
December 1746 he married Elizabeth Owen, daughter of Frances Owen, who had
married his uncle John Bell of Lombard Street, she

   being the widow of Tho=

Owen, brewer, of Southwark, and daughter of Thomas Zachary of London. He was
born 23^rd December 1719 and died 23^rd March 1780. They
had

        = 2 Jonathan, born 12^th August 1757, and who died young.

st June 1726, died 19^th October 1802. On 17^th February 1= 750 he married Katherine Barclay, daughter of David and Priscilla Barclay, who = died on 19^th October
   1784. They had childre= n:

        =         2 Daniel, baptized at Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, 5^th December 1793.

        = 9 Christiana, who married 1stly Nathaniel = Springall, and 2ndly Thomas Hawkin.

Ann Bell, the daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth Bell, married William Dodgson of Likeside, in the par= ish of Kirklington, Cumberland, yeoman. He was a son o= f John and Grissel Dodgson of Lik= eside. They had a son

&nb= sp; 1 William, who died aged 91 years on 15^th July 1840. He h= ad children:

        = 1 John, born 10^th March 1781. = He married Deborah Graham.
        = 2 Elizabeth, born 21^st June 1763, and died aged 88 years = 13^th August 1871.
        = 3 Joseph, born 15^th February 1786.
        = 4 Robert, born 5^th September 1790, and died aged 65 years= 14^th June 1856 at Wigton.
        = 5 Ann, born 19^th September 1792. On 24^th October 183 she married Joseph Saul.
