The son of Ludolph van Hattem, he was born at Dordrecht in February 1664. On 25th May 1676 he married Margriet Borstel. They had children:

1 Elisabeth.
2 Johan.
3 Lydia Catharina, born in 1692, who married 1stly 1711 Sir Thomas Davel MP. 2ndly she married James Brydges 1st Duke of Chandos.
